100 Mugs Later
I am not going to lie, I never saw myself making sip lid mugs… I was just trying a few new styles and BAM, they stuck. I totally understand that they are trendy, and most people enjoy them for their aesthetic value over their function (unless you’re my friend Lauren’s husband who LOVES the design as it preserves his fabulous mustache during his morning coffee).
But as a certified last minute girly, who loves drinking her coffee from an actual mug, I was constantly bringing them in my car to sip on throughout my morning commute to my full time job. Whoops!! I hit a bump and my coffee goes sloshin’ around. All the sudden those sip mugs I saw all over Pinterest didn’t seem like such a bad idea.
I made a ton of styles: checkered, resist painting palm trees, shell stamped designs, and jags theme ones during football season. Just like with the boots, the power of social media really spread the word about my work, and next thing you know I reached 100 sales on etsy. My amber ash shell print mug was the one everybody gravitated toward, which I am not surprised about, as that was always my favorite too.
I later evolved my design to include a tapered “cup holder approved” form, for all the girls (and guys) who also love to take their homemade coffee on the go. Those became a huge hit as well, and sold out at pretty much every market I tabled at.
Will I ever make handles again?? To be honest I won’t be mad if the answer is no!
